DanceSport competition update Dancing at the top level of competitive DanceSport pushes every couple to the limit, physically and emotionally. As younger dancers move up in experience and ranking, there is always someone nipping at your heels, trying to take the title. Wendy and I held the title of BC's top couple in the 35+ Latin category for about a year. Now, several couples many years younger, with longer dance experience, are turning 35 and challenging us for that title. At the Grand Ball, held November 10, 2007 one of those couples did win three of the five dances, taking the trophy. Two more young couples will join the battle in February at the SnowBall Classic. The good news is that we compete not for the trophy or title, but for the joy of dancing and the pleasure we bring to the audience through our superior connection and presence on the floor. These realities also mean we have to work harder than ever, which is always a positive thing for any sport. The fact is that young people can convert energy into speed of movement more quickly than those who are older. We'll be modifying our strategy to take advantage of our strengths and to continue bringing the audience an enjoyable presentation each time we're on the floor. But it may be the end of our constant first-place finishes. Time will tell. See us dance with streaming video.

This rigorous 2.9 km (1.8 mile) hike travels straight up the face of Vancouver's spectacular Grouse Mountain, an ascent of 853 metres (2,800 feet) or one and a half times the height of Toronto's CN Tower. The goal was to make it in under 45 minutes sometime before the end of the summer. During the summer of 2007, I managed a personal best of 43:49 which exceeded my goal. Next year I'll see if I can hit 42 minutes. In 1980, Porsche made a unique version of its famous 911SC sports car. Available in two color choices, only 406 of the "Weissach" Coupes were made. If you're a Porsche fan, you may find this additional information interesting. Jim Price was my father-in-law, Wendy's dad. An alcoholic, he impacted many people through his work with Alcoholics Anonymous. He passed away in 2000, but we didn't want his work to disappear, so we created a memorial site with helpful information. So am I. Because of my long tenure on the web, my e-mail address is used by hundreds of spammers as the "sent from" address. If you've received spam from this domain, it ain't from me. Recently Yahoo Groups disabled my account because of spam that was sent using that E-mail address. I'm a bit annoyed that they didn't even bother to check to headers, which would have clearly shown that it didn't come from this domain. In any case, I've moved the pytlik.com server to a different web hosting company with more intelligent spam management software. It might help, but who knows? |
