God's Power in Daily Life

Can anyone truly adhere to a set of guidelines so strongly that no matter what comes up, they do not compromise? It is extremely difficult--perhaps impossible--to do that on our own power. Only by giving our lives over to Jesus Christ daily can we have the power to live by our convictions! But even then, it takes more than an initial decision.

When we ask Jesus into our hearts, we ask Him to give us power for living (through the Holy Spirit) from His endless supply. We make ourselves an empty vessel willing to be shaped and guided by Christ. When we look to Him daily, talk to Him daily, consider His guidance as we do that of our best friend, then we can live joyful and productive Christian lives.

Furthermore, you need to identify your principles. Whether you memorize the Ten Commandments--"writing them on your heart"--or use some other method of thinking about your principles, it is vital to consider the principles by which you guide the decisions of your life. Many great people have written down or publicly professed their principles to ensure that they won't compromise them.

In the following sections are examples from the Bible of people who stood with courage and conscience on the foundation of a solid commitment to God. Some of them may have had written principles, others may have depended on accountability partners. Each one held fast to a belief in God to demonstrate the highest point of human achievement: holding to integrity in the face of opposition.
